Our History — "A Century of Excellence"
Dr. Moore Randolph Blackstock, a graduate of Colorado State University, began practicing in Spartanburg on April 6, 1913 in a livery stable owned by the late R.E. Cudd. Dr. Thomas Edward Brown started working with Dr. Blackstock in 1937 while he was attending Auburn University. After finishing a WWII tour with the Veterinary Corps, Dr. Brown returned in 1945 to practice with Dr. Blackstock at 149 Commerce Street. Dr. Blackstock served as the first chairman of the South Carolina Board of Veterinary Examiners.
Spartanburg Animal Clinic moved to 1500 Union Street in 1961. Dr. C. Edward Davidson joined Dr. Brown in the summer of 1975. Dr. Davidson also served in 1987 as the President of the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians. The practice moved to 346 Cedar Springs Road, its present location, in January 1996. Many associates have joined the practice over the years from outstanding veterinary colleges from all over the country including the University of Georgia, University of Tennessee, Michigan State University, North Carolina State University, Auburn University and Colorado State University.
The practice has been a leader in technology having the first electrocautery unit, the first gas anesthesia machine and the first ultrasound in Spartanburg. It was one of the co-founders of the first regional emergency clinic in Spartanburg.
